Kottayam: The 5-day Soorya Festival was wound up to a dramatic finish in Kottayam on Friday after a dazzling fusion performance that combined the nuances of Kathakali and Bharatnatyam.

Before the start of the dance programme, the organisers held a brief closing ceremony. Soorya coordinator Binu C. Sekhar thanked the organisers of the event in Kottayam, Aatma, and CMS College for the glitch-free hosting of the dance and musical festival.

K.J.K. Potti of Raagalaya Sangeet Natak Samiti said that accolades should be given to the organisers for turning the business-minded people of Kottayam to art enthusiasts.

Aatma also commemorated watercolour artist Sunil, whose works were included in an international magazine. Sunil was the only Keralite among the 132 artists featured in the magazine.

The final act

Adding to Soorya's motto of “integration through culture”, the dance fusion told the tale of 'Krishnamayam' through the art forms of Kathakali and Bharatnatyam. Sunil Pallipuram as the Kathakali artist and Paris Lakshmi as the danseuse brought alive on stage, the various Hindu mythological characters.

Complimenting each other brilliantly, the dance duo narrated the tales of Lord Krishna. Incidentally, the French-origin Bharatnatyam exponent Paris Lakshmi is also the wife of Sunil Pallipuram.

The artistes improvised on the traditional art forms that found a clear acceptance from the audience. They got a stupendous applause as the curtains were drawn on Soorya's Kottayam chapter.
