Cheruthoni: The police have arrested two people over the death of a Jharkhand native in Idukki.
Suniram, 28, was found grievously injured at Thadiyampadu in Idukki district and died at the hospital. The police later ascertained it to be a case of murder.
Jharkhand natives Sonalal Tudu, 19; and Dhottu Marandi, 20, were arrested over the incident.
The incident happened on November 5. Suniram was part of a group of 48 workers, including women, who were being brought from Jharkhand to work at the cardamom plantation at Kattapana in a tourist bus.
From the beginning of the journey, Suniram constantly picked up squabbles with the other passengers in the bus. Irked by this behaviour, they finally tied him up in the bus. After he pleaded, they released him. But then he continued to squabble. When the bus reached Thadiyampadu, the two accused lifted Suniram and allegedly flung him on to the road. As it was early in the morning, the other passengers did not know of this.
When the bus reached Kattappana, the agent took a count of the workers and found one person to be missing. They then complained to the Kattappana police. A probe was held and the police found the injured Suniram at Thadiyampadu.
He was admitted to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital. But he died the next day.
As per the instructions of district police chief R Karuppasamy, Idukki SHO B Jayan led the investigation and the two accused were arrested.
The investigation team included SIs Ajayakumar and Jacob Mani; ASI George Kutty and Rasheed; CPOs Joshua, Binoy, Reji, Jinu, and Anumol.
