Pope Francis, 88, went to hospital on February 14 with a severe respiratory infection.
The 88-year-old pontiff has been battling pneumonia in both lungs after being hospitalised.
"The clinical conditions of the Holy Father are confirmed to be improving," said the latest detailed medical update on his condition.
Francis, who has been in Rome's Gemelli Hospital since February 14, is again receiving 'non-invasive, mechanical ventilation' to help with his breathing.
The episode came just hours after a Vatican source said the Pope's condition was no longer considered critical.
The clinical conditions of the Holy Father in the last 24 hours have shown a further slight improvement.
Francis was admitted to Rome's Gemelli hospital on February 14. The Vatican first described his condition as critical on Saturday.
Vatican sources said Sunday the Pope was still receiving oxygen through a tube tucked into his nose.
Francis has been head of the Catholic Church since 2013 but has suffered numerous health issues in recent years and underwent major surgery in 2021 and 2023.
