Kochi: As the Indian Super League (ISL) has paused for an international break, social media is abuzz with rumours of Kerala Blasters' head coach Ivan Vukomanovic quitting the job. There are even heated debates on social media platforms and fan pages on the possible candidates to replace the 'outgoing' Serbian!

Can the rumours be true? Let's hear it straight from the horse's mouth: "These rumours are false and baseless. I love Kerala Blasters and I want to continue managing the club. Kerala holds a special place in my heart. I absolutely love my job here and the thought of quitting has never been on my mind," Vukomanovic told Manorama.

The 46-year-old Vukomanovic, who guided the Yellow Brigade to playoffs in the last two seasons, was appointed as the club's head coach in June, 2021. He is pleased with the team's performance in the ongoing season and is confident of making it to the playoffs for the third time on the trot.

"I'm quite pleased with how Blasters have progressed over the last couple of seasons. I'm also excited to motivate this team to new heights," he said.

While most of the players, including the foreign recruits, have gone on holiday to make the most of the international break, Vukomanovic has chosen to remain in Kochi. Playmaker Adrian Luna, who underwent a minor knee surgery following an injury, has joined the team recently. The Uruguayan, who also captains the side, has resumed training and Vukomanovic has stayed back to help him regain his full fitness. The team management is hopeful of Luna returning to the field for the playoffs. Croatian centre-back Marko Leskovic, who was stretched off during the match against Chennaiyin FC on February 16, has also returned to training.

The remaining players will join the squad on Wednesday to prepare for their next match against Jamshedpur FC on March 30. Blasters are currently placed fifth on the points table. With four more matches remaining, they are almost assured of a playoff berth.
