Of late, the dish has been going viral even in the US, with a restaurant classifying its spiciness between 'American mild' and 'Indian Spicy' and a customer sharing the options on Twitter. 

Netizens had varied opinions about it, predictably, with some supporting the restaurant's attempt to adapt and others lambasting it. Regardless of whether you like your paneer spicy or mild, here's a recipe that give you a plateful of this flavourful dish with all its perfection.

Ingredients
250 gms paneer
3 tbsp butter
2 medium sized onions
2 medium sized tomatoes
6 – 7 cashews
1 tsp Kashmiri chili powder
2 -3 bay leaves and cardamom pods
Kasuri methi or dried fenugreek leaves
Coriander leaves
½ tsp sugar
Salt as required

Preparation
Heat butter in a pan
Sauté the onions, tomatoes, salt and chili powder
After it has cooled down, blend in a mixer jar into smooth paste
Heat some more butter
Sauté bay leaves, cardamom pods and some more onions
Now add the puree, salt and enough water
Allow the gravy to boil
Into it add paneer, dried fenugreek leaves, butter and 1 tsp sugar
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves
Delicious and creamy paneer butter masala is ready.
