Online updates for Aadhaar do not cover biometric data like iris scans, fingerprints, and facial photographs.
Akshaya centres in Kerala, which provide various online services, have been witnessing a huge rush of people who sought to change their Aadhaar details, believing that December 14 was the deadline for the purpose.
The artificial intelligence and machine learning based security mechanism which has been developed in-house is now using a "combination of both finger minutia and finger image" to check the liveness of the fingerprint captured.
The new process can be initiated after submitting proof of relationship documents like a ration card, mark sheet, marriage certificate, passport etc, mentioning the name of both the applicant and head of family.
The updation would ensure "continued accuracy" of Aadhaar-related information in the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR), according to gazette notification issued by Ministry of Electronics and IT.
The body issued a clarification saying it was a regional UIDAI office that issued the advisory after an attempt to misuse a photoshopped Aadhaar card.
Sharing of biometric information or its use for any purpose other than the generation of the Aadhaar number and authentication under the Aadhaar Act is impermissible.
