A Kerala Excise Mobile Interception Unit (KEMU) foiled a suspected burglary getaway from Dakshina Kannada when the fleeing car slammed into a wall at Adhur in eastern Kasargod on Wednesday.
Yasir was booked by the Kadavanthra police for drunk driving.
The car travelling from Kasaragod to Mangalore crashed into the divider near Omallur checkpost around 10 pm on Monday.
The car's driver was detained, a police spokesperson said, adding that it was unclear whether there were other suspects.
The deceased is Faihan (1), son of Abbas and Raheena from Kumbidi.
Reena was the sister of Olympian KM Beenamol.
The deceased Mary Abraham (70) was a resident of Kattadikavala.
Purameri native Shajeel was booked under Section 304(A) of the Indian Penal Code, making him eligible for station bail.
The front portion of the car was completely destroyed in the crash.
Shajeel has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
