Thiruvananthapuram: The KPCC disciplinary committee has set in motion the move to take action against the Congress leaders and workers who were indicted by the inquiry panels for spoiling the winning prospects of the UDF candidates in the last Assembly polls.
The disciplinary committee has asked the respective DCC president to give feedback on the organisational work of each of the accused leaders in the last year.
The disciplinary committee led by Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has given 10 days' time for the DCCs to file such reports.
After the Assembly polls, the KPCC had appointed a separate inquiry team for each of the three regions to study the defeat of Congress candidates.
When the UDF constituent parties also came up with allegations against some Congress leaders for working against their candidates, the KPCC also included such cases in the terms of reference of the inquiry committees.
Hundreds of Congress leaders and workers were implicated by the inquiry committees for sabotaging the chances of the UDF candidates in the last Assembly polls. Though the inquiry committee submitted reports way back, no follow-up action was taken.
The disciplinary panel led by Thiruvanchoor was constituted recently. The panel gave first preference to these inquiry reports.
It has now decided to take follow-up action on the basis of the inquiry reports.
According to available indications, the party may not take stern action against those who have mended their ways and worked for the party selflessly during the last year. But the axe of party discipline will fall on those who are inactive and those who still indulge in anti-party activities.
The reports of the DCC presidents are going to be crucial in this regard.
To crush defamatory social media campaign
The Congress State level disciplinary panel has recommended to the KPCC strong action against a party worker from Kozhikode who indulged in a defamatory campaign against AICC general secretary KC Venugopal through social media.
Speaking to the media after the disciplinary committee meeting, its chairman Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said that stern action would be taken against those who indulged in a vilifying campaign against the party and its leaders through social media.
He said any attempt by the party workers to discredit the party or vent personal anger against leaders through social media would be treated as gross indiscipline.
Thiruvanchoor further said that using modern technology, attempts would be made to find out those who masterminded such anti-party campaigns.
Disciplinary Committee members N Azhakeshan and Dr.Arifa were also present at the meeting.
