The autorickshaw driver who rushed Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan to hospital after suffering grievous injuries in a stabbing incident at his residence in Bandra, has been rewarded a sum of Rs 11,000 for his selfless act. The man, identified as Bhajan Singh Rana received Rs 11,000 from a social worker Faisan Ansari. Rana said that he had acted without expecting anything in return and added that his family was proud of him after the stabbing incident grabbed news headlines. Meanwhile, Rana clarified that he has not been contacted by anyone from Saif’s family.
“I helped Saif Ali Khan without expecting anything in return. I am just dedicated to the work I do. Everyone says that I have done a great deed. I feel happy hearing that. Besides, I was overwhelmed when my family said they were proud of me,” Rana said. The Bandra police had summoned Rana to the police station to record his statement.
“I was called by the police to the Bandra police station for questioning. I didn’t think about the money at that moment. He was covered in blood and all I could think was to take him to the hospital as soon as possible. I have not been contacted by Kareena Kapoor or anyone else so far. I have not had any conversation with them,” Rana told the media.
A few days ago, Rana narrated the incident to the media. “I have been driving an auto rickshaw on the same route at night for the last 15 years. That night I noticed a woman screaming for a vehicle, standing in front of the gate. No one stopped; so, I took the U-turn to reach her. I saw a few people holding a man who was bleeding profusely. They helped him into the auto,” said the driver. Rana who didn’t recognise the actor said that Saif was bleeding heavily from his neck and back. He stated that the actor was accompanied to the hospital by a young boy who looked seven. Rana also added that he doesn’t recall seeing Kareena among the group.
