After Malarikkal in Kerala's Kottayam gained fame for its breathtaking 950-acre water lily blooms in August, several other areas also emerged as popular hotspots for the pink flowers in the past few years. However, most blossom during the monsoon season and last till October. However, a little spot near Kochi is now experiencing the blush and rose hues of the flowers, despite the state being in peak summer. And thanks to a handful of travellers who discovered the spot, it is also gaining popularity among other wayfarers. The tiny hamlet of Olippuram near Edakkattuvayal can be spotted on Google Maps as 'Olippuram Ambal Padam.' Social media influencer and photographer Anandajith Baburaj, who hails from the locality, tells us more about the scenic spot.

What to see?
Olippuram's highlight is an idyllic canal adorned with pink water lilies, set against lush paddy fields and gentle mountains, all easily accessible to visitors. "It's best enjoyed in the early morning, with fresh blooms. Flowers wilt as the day progresses," says Anandajith. Regular farming isn't practised in the region, and no permission is required to explore the area either.

Activity possibilities
Being an emerging spot, there aren't many activity possibilities in the region yet, though those interested might be able to try angling in the canal. "It has an Instagram-worthy appeal quality to it, which makes it ideal for photoshoots. I can vouch for it, having done one myself recently," says Anandajith.
