Football lovers may have heard of the iconic Wembley Stadium, England’s national stadium. However, not many know that a quaint hamlet in Kottayam, Kerala, is also called Vembly. Sceneries
1) Pappani, Noorekkar and Vellappara waterfalls are on the Vembly – Urumbikkara road. The Noorekkar waterfall is on the roadside, while the Vellapara waterfall is a bit away from the road. The Pappani falls, which is the biggest among the three, is also on the Urumbikkara road.
The foamy waters of Pappani waterfall cascade from a height of 600 metres into a pool of calm and soothing water. The scintillating village life at Vembly stands out for its simplicity and serene charm.

Here’s how to reach Vembly
1) From Mundakkayam, you could reach Vembly via Kootickal – Kokkayar, Kootickal – Enthayar and 35 Mile Bois Estate.
2) Kottayam – Mundakkayam – Kootickal – Kokkayar – Vembly: 62 kilometres
3) Kottayam – Mundakkayam – Kootickal – Enthayar – Vembly: 66 kilometres
4) Kottayam – Mundakkayam – 35th Mile – Bois Estate – Vembly: 61 kilometres
5) Kottayam – Pala – Erattupetta – Pathampuzha – Cholathadam – Kootickal – Kokkayar – Vembly – 67 kilometres
The three waterfalls are within three kilometres of Vembly.

Points to note
1) The waterfalls would flow only during the monsoon.
2) As there are no proper safety measures at the waterfalls, it is better not to get into the water.
3) Follow the weather updates; do not plan trips to the waterfalls during the rains.
4) The roads from Vembly to the waterfalls are narrow, so be careful while driving on them. Besides, some parts of the road are dilapidated.
5) Follow the instructions of the people in the locality and take heed to their warnings.
6) Shortage of basic facilities and infrastructure.
