It's been a month since the KSRTC's Munnar double-decker bus was introduced in the Munnar bus stand - Anayirangal Dam route. Ever since, 3,500 people have ridden the bus, which has amassed around Rs 13 lakh, becoming a super-hit service. The budget tourism cell has now requested an upgrade - an electric bus on the route. They have also recommended extending the service to Bodimettu, adding another five stops. Currently, a three-hour trip on the bus offers five interim stops en route, letting riders enjoy the Kannan Devan tea estates, Malaikallan Rock Cave, Signal Point, Periyakanal Falls, Lockhart Estate View, Chokramala Hill, Orange Farm and the Anayirangal Dam. The bus's upper deck costs Rs 400 per seat, and the lower can be booked for Rs 200 per passenger. There are 38 seats on top and 12 on the lower deck. The trip timings are 9 am, 12.30 pm and 4 pm.

New route possibilities
The requested electric double-decker bus is on the lines of the one in service in Thiruvananthapuram. If the service is extended, spots like Pooppara Tea Estate and Devikulam Lake might also be added to the itinerary. To book the bus, log in to the KSRTC SWIFT website
Search 'Munnar KSRTC Royal View Double Deck and 'sightseeing' will appear in the 'Going To' box. Select your journey date and pick the trip you prefer. You can also pick your seats, provide passenger details and fill in the rest of the details before proceeding to 'payee' details. At a time, a maximum of six seats can be booked.
