Thodupuzha: The cantilever glass bridge in Vagamon that was opened with much fanfare in August last year has been closed for more than 125 days following a government order in May, citing safety concerns. Hundreds of tourists, including many from other states who come here only to walk on the bridge, are often disappointed. The tourism department issued an advisory on May 29, stopping all adventure activities and boating near the water bodies, following predictions of heavy rain. Despite resuming boating, the glass bridge remains closed and the authorities have not given the reasons for the same, yet.
The famed glass bridge is at the adventure park at Kolahalamedu in Vagamon. The glass bridge, constructed on a budget of Rs 3 crore, is a public-private joint venture around 3500 feet above sea level. The entry fee was Rs 250 per head. There was a visitor limit of 1,000 people a day. 15 individuals were permitted at a time.
