You may always be up for binge watching your favourite series or to get hooked on your phone the whole day. But wouldn't you love chilling with your friends over a cup of coffee and board games without using your phone? Here's Eve's coffee in Thiruvananthapuram, a board game-based coffee shop, which is a first of its kind in Kerala.

The stately coffee shop, situated on the first floor of a house at Pettah-Anayara road is packed with more than 150 games, ranging from the popular party game Cards against Humanity to Scrabbles, Chess, Jenga, Monopoly, Cluedo, and Scotland Yard- they have it all. If you are game for a round of Foosball, you can even gather your group and start the show.

Once you open the door of Eve's Coffee, you enter a different world. It takes you through a verandah to a green-painted room full of books. Their in-house library has around 2000 books. Walk into the cafe room, and you can spot a TV, gaming console, and board games. Grab a drink, pick your book, choose your spot and read peacefully.

Disconnect to connect

Eve's coffee is run by the couple Beta and Jessa. A native of Thiruvananthapuram, Beta grew up in Abu Dhabi and met his Filipino wife Jessa in a coffee shop. They bonded well and got married. They were tired of their busy and hectic life and decided to settle in his hometown. Eve's Coffee was thus born.

“Since Beta had his house in Thiruvananthapuram, we thought of making some changes on the first floor and turn it into a unique coffee shop. We discussed on how to handle the customers with lot of fun, set up a library and have board games,” says Jessa.

With growing interest in the present generation who spends most of their time on phones, Beta wanted a unique concept where their customers would disconnect their phones in order to connect with each other.

“We invested a lot of money and time to set up the library and buy board games, foosball table and gaming consoles. Such a board game-based coffee shop was also new to Keralites and we somehow clicked,” says Beta.

Beta and Jessa turn themselves into game gurus by explaining the game making sure you don't get bored. They will also help you pick the right game for you.

Eve's coffee has regular customers who come here for the stage they have set to connect with each other. "Time flies when you are with the right company. And no place understands this better than Eve's. There's always a right game for each new day; and if that's not enough, there are even more to choose from. And to top it off, coffee, cakes and books. What more can a man ask for...," says Rakesh, who visits Eve's coffee frequently.
