Nurses write to health minister to improve licence guidelines

The Indian Professional Nurses Association has written to the central Health Minister JP Nadda and the Indian Nursing Council, urging them to implement a unified national registration system for nurses, which allows them to secure jobs easily anywhere in the country. The nurses have written that they have been facing difficulties due to the current guideline that the nursing license registration should be changed to the respective state where they are working. As per this rule, a nursing professional registered with the nursing council in Kerala should have a separate registration in the state where they wish to work.
The online application for changing the council registration often gets delayed, adversely affecting the employment prospects of the applicants, reports Manorama Online. The Nurses Registration and Tracking System, which was launched in 2018 to make the council registration changing procedure easier, has stopped working, causing delays in allotting the Unique Identification Number. In a country with over 36 lakh nurses, less than 12 lakh nurses have the NRTS registration number or the National Unique Identification Number (NUID).
Taking advantage of the problems in the registration system, the agencies trick the nurses by charging exorbitant rates. Meanwhile, the nurses urged in the letter to take necessary steps to make the registration process quick and easier. MPs KC Venugopal and Jeby Mather had submitted the letter to Minister JP Nadda. KC Venugopal also raised the issue in Lok Sabha.
