Indian Railways is all set to roll out a new set of rules and instructions to improve passenger safety and efficient crowd management. As per the latest guideline, only those who have confirmed tickets will be allowed to enter the railway stations. This will be first implemented in the 60 busiest railway stations in all the major cities across the country to prevent overcrowding and enhance passenger safety. For the initial phase, a few of the stations chosen are New Delhi Railway Station, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai, Howrah Station in Kolkata, Chennai Central Station and Bengaluru City Railway Station.

The new rule directs passengers on the waiting list, and those who do not have tickets to wait in the waiting area outside the railway station. Meanwhile, a senior officer would be appointed as the station director in the railway stations where the rule has been implemented. The station director has the right to decide how many passengers can enter the station, depending on the space in the station and the availability of tickets.
The policy will be implemented in more railway stations where overcrowding has become a problem in the future. The new rule will likely cause temporary inconvenience, especially to those who arrive at the stations without confirmed tickets. However, the authorities hope these changes will enhance passenger safety and the traveling experience.
Indian railway stations often experience heavy crowds, especially during holidays and festivals. People often visit the stations to drop off or receive their relatives, causing huge crowds on the platforms. Unnecessary crowding could be prevented by allowing only those who have confirmed tickets inside the railway stations.
The key decision was taken after Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw met with the high-ranking officials of the Indian Railway. When implemented, this new rule will require passengers to make prior bookings and ensure that they possess confirmed tickets when they arrive at the railway stations for the journey.
