Despite winning the World Chess Championship, Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh's live FIDE rating has witnessed a slight dip while the runner-up, Ding Liren of China, is set to gain.
Gukesh, who started the tournament in Singapore with an Elo rating of 2783, is set to lose 6.2 points. He will retain his fifth place behind compatriot Arjun Erigaisi (2800). Norway's Magnus Carlsen heads the list (2831).
Ding, ranked 22nd in the classical format before his 14-game battle with Gukesh, is set to move up five places. He will also gain 6.2 points in rating to reach 2734.
Gukesh's dip in rating is due to Ding's lower rating, and each time they drew or the Chinese GM won, the Indian took a hit in points. There were nine draws in the contest. Ding won two games, while Gukesh claimed three wins, including in the decisive Game 14 that delivered him the title.
Elo ratings can change frequently, often during a tournament, depending on a player's performance.
