Bengaluru get closer to ISL final after beating Goa 2-0 in semifinal first-leg

Bengaluru FC moved closer to the Indian Super League final with a thrilling 2-0 win over FC Goa in the first leg of their semifinal. The second leg will be played in Goa on April 6.
Former Bengaluru defender Sandesh Jhingan scored an own goal in the 42nd minute before Edgar Mendez made it 2-0 in the 51st minute at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.
After an exciting first 40 minutes, the breakthrough came when Mendez played a cross aimed at Ryan Williams, but it was Jhingan who met with the delivery, and in his attempt to clear the danger, the centre-back scored an own goal.
Early in the second half, Williams played Namgyal Bhutia, who crossed for Mendez, and the attacker had a tap-in to give a healthy 2-0 lead for the former champions.
The visitors had a late chance when Aakash Sangwan crossed for Onaindia, but his header went over the bar. Boris Singh forced Gurpreet Singh Sandhu to make a smart save.
Jamshedpur FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant will play the first leg of the second semifinal in Jamshedpur on April 3.
