The Kerala state government has approved the ropeway project connecting Wayanad and Kozhikode districts. The 3.675-kilometre-long ropeway that connects Lakkidi with Adivaram will be the longest in South India. It would pass above two hectares of pristine forest area. The ride to one side would take only 15 minutes, and the passengers would be covering three kilometres in this duration. Now, the journey from Lakkidi to Adivaram via the mountain pass takes at least 40 minutes. The AC cable cars can accommodate up to six passengers at a time.
It's expected that more than 400 people could use the ropeway in an hour. Forty towers would be erected between Adivaram and Lakkidi for the project. Besides, special bus services would also be arranged from Bathery to Lakkidi and from Kozhikode to Adivaram. The project has acquired all the technical approvals from the state and the central governments. The traffic congestion in the mountain pass could be easily managed when Adivaram – Nooramthodu – Chipilithodu – Thalipuzha road too becomes a reality. Recreational Park, star hotels, cafeteria, amphi theatre as well as an auditorium would be developed as part of the Adivaram and Lakkidi terminals.
