Kozhikode: A 42-year-old patient died after jumping off the second floor of the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Askar from Thalayi, Thalassery.

The incident occurred at around 1 am on Tuesday. According to reports, Askar broke the glass of a window in Ward 31 and jumped. Although he was rushed to the emergency department, doctors were unable to save his life. Askar was initially admitted to Ward 9 but allegedly went to Ward 31 with the intent to jump.

"A preliminary investigation suggests the deceased suffered from mental health issues. Further inquiries will clarify the circumstances," said a police officer from the Medical College Police Station.

Askar, who belonged to a fisherman family known locally as Vyoyarantavide, was a resident of Thalayi. His body was moved to the mortuary and will be handed over to his family following an autopsy.
