Alappuzha: Hundreds poured into the Medical College auditorium here on Tuesday to pay homage to the five MBBS students who tragically lost their lives in a car crash in Alappuzha. 

Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and ministers Saji Cherian (Fisheries, Culture, and Youth Affairs), Veena George (Health and Women & Child Development), and P Prasad (Agriculture) paid respects to the deceased.

Alappuzha Collector Alex Varghese has announced that the state government would cover the expenses and arrange ambulances to transport the mortal remains to their respective homes. Autopsies were completed by 11 am.

The accident happened around 9.30 pm on Monday when the students' car crashed into the Kayamkulam-Guruvayur KSRTC superfast bus at the Kalarkode-Changanassery Junction. They were reportedly going from Vandanam to Alappuzha to watch a movie.

The deceased are - Devananthan (19) from Kottakkal, Malappuram; Sreedev Valsan (19) from Sekharipuram, Palakkad; Ayush Shaji (19) from Chennadu, Kottayam; PP Mohammed Ibrahim PP (19) from Androth, Lakshadweep; Mohammed Abdul Jabbar (19) from Pandyala, Kannur.  

Mohammed Ibrahim PP's parents are yet to reach Kerala from Lakshadweep, and his funeral will take place at Central Juma Masjid, Ernakulam. Devananthan’s funeral will be held at his home in Mattakkara, Alappuzha, at 4 pm on Wednesday.
