Dramatist and social activist Madhu Master is no more. He was 74.

The left ideologue, who brought to stage popular plays namely 'Amma', 'Spartacus' and 'Sunanda' had been battling age-related illnesses.

He breathed his last at a private hospital at Eranhipalam in Kozhikode on Saturday.

K Madhusoodanan popularly known as Madhu Master was an uncompromising voice in Kerala's socio-political landscape. He used art to express his protests.

His play 'Amma' (Mother), which was an adaptation of Russian writer Maxim Gorky's novel by the same name, was a revolutionary work in Kerala's theatre movement.

Noted actor Joy Mathew was part of the play that performed on over a hundred stages throughout Kerala.

Madhu Master was also part of a few films. He co-wrote the screenplay when John Abraham set out to make a film on the Kayyur Revolt of 1941.

Madhu embraced the communist party while in school and later became a staunch supporter of Left politics.

Later he became an active member of the Naxal movement and was jailed for months while functioning as its Wayanad district secretary.

His body was brought to his house at Muthuvattuthazham and will be kept for public homage at the Town Hall on Sunday. Later, the cremation will be held at Mavoor Road crematorium.

K Thankam is his wife and his sons are MT Vidhuraj (senior photographer, Malayala Manorama) and Abhinayaraj.
