Thiruvananthapuram: Six employees of a jewellery shop in Karunagappally were the winners of the Rs 12 crore jackpot of the Kerala government's Thiruvonam Bumper Lottery 2019.
Rony, Vivek, Ratheesh, Subin, Ramji and Rajeev were the lucky six who will share the prize money.
The winning ticket numbered TM 160869 was sold by lottery agent Sivankutty at Alappuzha.
The first prize is a whopping Rs 12 crore, the biggest prize money in the history of Kerala lottery. However, the winner will get only Rs 7.56 crore, which is the final amount after the mandatory deductions of agency commission and income tax.
The tickets were sold in 10 series, thus the other nine having the same number of the winning ticket but belonging to different series would be awarded a consolation price of Rs 5 lakh.
While agency commission is 10 per cent of the prize money, the income tax would come up to 30 per cent of the money after the agency commission is deducted.
The first prize winner can take home 63 per cent of the prize money, according to the data provided by the Directorate of Kerala State Lotteries via the Right To Information Act.
As the first prize is Rs 12 crore, the agency commission would come up to Rs 1.20 crore. For the remaining Rs 10.8 crore, the income tax would come up to Rs 3.24 crore. After both are deduced, the winner would get Rs 7.56 crore.
The second price of Rs 5 crore was won by ticket number TM 514401. The third prize was won by ticket number TG 135467.
The ticket cost was Rs 300 each.
