When BMW India announced the appointment of EVM Autokraft as its second dealer for Kerala in 2019, it was not just another business deal but also a recognition of a Kerala-based industrial group’s unwavering passion for expansion and diversification.
Formed in 1935 as a small entrepreneurial company, EVM Group has, in its 90 years of growth, made its strong presence in diverse sectors such as cultivation, spices, natural rubber supply and commercial automobile. Behind the group’s steady rise in the automobile sector is the business acumen of Sabu Johny, the managing director.
With over 24 years of experience, Sabu, the son of the group chairman E M Johny, has transformed EVM Group into a powerhouse, representing prestigious brands such as Ducati, BMW, Porsche, and Mini. He has also championed the shift towards electric mobility with partnerships involving AltiGreen, Ather, and BYD.
Sabu’s ability to sense new business opportunities as markets develop and technologies advance has played a key role in the company’s evolution into an industry major.
Known for his organising and managerial skills, Sabu has served as a two-term chairman of the Kerala Chapter of the Federation Of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) and is currently the treasurer of the Kerala Automobile Dealers Association.
Sabu will be speaking at a panel discussion on AI in Everyday Life: How Artificial Intelligence is reshaping the businesses we interact with?’ at the Manorama Online Techspectations 2025.
