Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has ordered the strict implementation of the ban on conducting classes during summer vacation for the 2024-25 academic year. The directive was issued by a division bench comprising commission chairperson K V Manoj Kumar and member Dr Wilson.
The commission has directed the director of the education department to ensure compliance with the order and take strict action against any violations. CBSE and ICSE schools must adhere to the Kerala High Court’s ruling, which last year allowed them to conduct summer classes only between 7.30 am and 10.30 am. The respective regional officers and chairpersons have been instructed to oversee its implementation.
Meanwhile, government and aided schools are not permitted to conduct summer classes, as there is no provision in the Kerala Education Rules for such sessions. However, the government retains the authority to issue special orders allowing classes in these schools.
As per the commission’s directive, private tuition centres must also strictly adhere to the permitted timings of 7.30 am to 10.30 am. The state police chief has been instructed to take action against any centres violating this rule. Concerned officials must submit a report to the commission within 15 days after implementing the directive.
