‘A woman should never be an isolated bright lamp but a vibrant flaming torch that spreads positivity all around. Instead of draping in ennui, a woman should have the strength to be sprightly to face the emotional challenges, mentally and physically.’ These invaluable words of wisdom come from none other than Beena Kannan who had scripted an enviable business story with the stupendous success of ‘Seematti’, a retail brand synonymous with saris. Now, the seasoned entrepreneur is all geared up to kick-start a project called ‘Being Kinetic’, which intends to make women healthy and strong. The fashionista-cum-businesswoman is all set to empower women and take them on a fitness ride.
Fitness mantra
Beena Kannan stepped into the world of business the next day after appearing for her degree examinations. Even while Beena was busy building the ‘Seematti’ brand from scratch after some trials and tribulations, she never lost track of the habits inculcated into her by her father right from childhood. She realized during her younger days that the good old lesson of staying fit the healthy way should not be taken lightly.
20,000 steps daily, trekking for hours together, supple body movements of ‘Kalaripayattu’, the ancient martial art of Kerala and more are a cakewalk for the sexagenarian. She may be 64 years old but her mind and body are energetic and agile. But her busy life had at times stood in the way of her habit of exercising regularly. That’s when the idea of ‘Being Kinetic’ dawned in her whereby one could stay fit as a fiddle through physical movements beyond the ambit of normal exercises.
‘Being Kinetic’
Physical movements make women zestful and dynamic. Even the simple movement to pick a piece of paper off the floor won’t go down the drain. One’s life should not be spent in ruminative brooding. It is very inspiring to note that Beena never missed her dance, yoga and gym sessions during her hectic 20-day long business trips in a month. “I learned the intricacies of profit and loss by being physically active through walking and running,” says the high-flyer.
‘Being Kinetic’ is not about hitting the gym regularly or following a strict diet regime. It also doesn’t involve dozens of gym equipment. The concept banks on physical movements, and the ‘Being Kinetic’ center would have facilities to run, trek, jump and climb trees to keep women fit. The facility would open its doors today, on International Women’s Day and usher in a novel health culture for women in Kerala. Beena hopes to open such centers in all districts and later in all panchayats. The center, which is in Vennala of Ernakulam on the Ernakulam bypass, doesn’t boast of any fancy technology-based techniques but provides an atmosphere to be involved in ebullient physical movements that would generate positive kinetic energy for women.
“Women coming to Being Kinetic would experience a surge in energy through physical movements and liveliness,” notes Beena who is someone who worked hard with great resilience and gave utmost importance to staying healthy the right way. Girls and women aged between 3 and 90 can become members of ‘Being Kinetic’.
