Shihabudeen, an expatriate, built an elegant house, which has a charming surprise inside, on an 11-cent plot close to his ancestral home in Manjeri, Malappuram, Kerala. Though the uneven plot without a definite structure, posed a challenge while constructing the house it turned out to be perfect with scintillating interiors which intrigue the guests.

As the house is built right next to the ancestral home, the boundary wall was avoided on this side. This made the front courtyard incredibly vast and spacious. Exquisite kadappa stones and green grass are arranged in alternate layers to make the courtyard look chic and attractive.

The box shaped elevation ensures maximum utilization of space. This design is followed in the boundary wall as well. One can enter the house from the sit-out and also from the car porch, which is adjacent to it. The vast spaces are the most striking feature of the interiors. This 3360 sq ft house has living and dining areas, kitchen and four bedrooms.

Brown and white hues dominate the interiors, making it look classy and stylish. The custom-made furniture reflects this theme perfectly. Elegant marble, paved on floor, gifts a unique charm to the interiors spaces. The indoor plants add a pop of green hue which makes the indoors look more pleasant.

The beautiful wall papers, gypsum false ceilings and perfect lighting add to the overall scintillating look of the interiors. Though the interiors spaces are open, there are unique features which ensure enough privacy for the family members. The semi-partition between the living and the dining spaces is a fine example of this.

Shihabudeen confesses that the beautiful patio, adjacent to the family living area, is the family’s favorite corner. This extremely cozy space is where they gather up when their close friends drop in. This area is pleasantly illuminated by the natural sunlight falling through the glass pergola on the ceiling. A counter space has been arranged here to transfer food directly from the kitchen.

The dining area is designed in double height. This feature helps the spaces look vaster and spacious. The unique design of the stairway and the skylights above it swiftly captures the attention of the guests. The sunlight draws a myriad pictures inside the house as the sun keeps changing its position.
