Delicious and fragrant ven pongal sambar prepared with moong dal and spices could be served with idli, dosa and steaming rice too. Check out the fairly easy recipe of ven pongal sambar.

Ingredients
¼ cup moong dal
10 - 15 shallots
1 onion
1 tomato
3 green chillies
¼ tsp cumin
½ tsp turmeric powder
¾ tbsp sambar powder
A pinch of asafoetida powder
½ tsp mustard seeds
2 ½ tbsp coconut oil
Coriander leaves
Salt as required

Preparation
Wash the moong dal and soak for ½ an hour
Take the soaked moong dal, shallots, onion, tomato, green chillies, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, salt and 1 tbsp coconut oil in a pressure cooker
Cook on high flame until 2 whistles
Open the lid and cook for some more time until the gravy boils
Into it add the sambar powder
Cook well
Now add the chopped coriander leaves
Mix well and turn off the flame
Meanwhile, heat coconut oil in another pan
Splutter the mustard seeds
Sauté curry leaves, asafoetida powder and a pinch of sambar powder too
Add this tempering into the sambar
Mix well and keep it aside with the lid on for some time
Tasty ven pongal sambar is ready!
