Chicken kizhi or spiced chicken cooked in plantain packets could easily be the centre piece of your special Eid treat. The chicken is marinated in spices which gives it amazing flavour. The plantain packets add freshness to the dish. Here is the recipe of the mouth watering chicken kizhi.

Ingredients
1 kg chicken (cut into pieces)
1 tsp black pepper powder
1 tsp chilli powder
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp lemon juice
Salt as required
Coconut oil as required
2 onions (chopped)
1 tomato (diced)
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
3 green chillies (chopped)
Some curry leaves
½ tbsp coriander powder
1 tbsp chilli powder
½ tsp garam masala
1 tsp black pepper powder
¼ cup coconut shards
Curry leaves as required

Preparation
Clean the chicken pieces and marinate it with pepper powder, chilli powder, turmeric powder, lemon juice and salt as required.
Heat coconut oil in a pan and sauté onions, tomato, ginger-garlic paste, green chillies and some curry leaves.
Into it add coriander powder, chilli powder, garam masala, pepper powder and sauté until the raw smell is off.
Now add the marinated chicken pieces and mix well until the chicken gets covered in the sautéed mixture. Cook it for at least 8 minutes with the lid on.
Add the coconut shards and allow the water to get reduced.
Add the curry leaves and give it a good mix before taking it off the heat.
Take two big sheets of plantain leaves and soften it over the flame.
Place the chicken mixture in the centre of the plantain leaves and wrap it into a packet.
Cook these packets in steam for at least 10 minutes.
