Thiruvananthapuram: Preparations for the 63rd Kerala School Kalolsavam are in full swing as the collection of raw materials and supplies for the festival kitchen officially began with Education Minister V Sivankutty inaugurating the initiative.
It is for the first time in the State School Arts Festival's history that all food resources for the event are being mobilised from the students themselves. The supplies contributed at the school level on December 30 and 31 will be transported to the respective Block Resource Centres (BRCs) of Samagra Shiksha, Kerala, on January 1. These items will then make their way to the Putharikandam grounds on January 2, where they will be received by Civil Supplies Minister G R Anil.
According to organisers, chef Pazhayidom Mohanan Namboothiri, who has been entrusted with managing the festival kitchen, will be compensated only after deducting the value of the food items collected from schools. The five-day festival’s catering contract has been finalised at Rs 24 lakh.
