The Malarikkal water lily tourism spot in Kerala's Kottayam, where tourists see 2800 acres of paddy fields in pink hues from July to September, can be accessed easily this year. The Kanjirampalam-Malarikkal road of 1.4 km has been modernised as per BMBC (Bituminous Macadam and Bituminous Concrete) standards. Many tourists have faced inconveniences in the past years due to the narrow roads in this stretch. The witer lilies bloom in the JJ Block and Thiruvaikkari fields in the region, and a water lily tourism fest is also held here every year. Local people have also requested security fencing on either side of the roads as they have been raised as part of the modernising efforts. They have also demanded for seating facilities in the area. At this time of the year, the area also gets tourists who visit the region to see Kerala's green paddy fields, sunrise and sunset, and even to do photoshoots in their backdrop.

How to reach Malarikkal?
If you are travelling from the Kottayam side, Malarikkal is just 7.5 km away. First, head towards Illikkal Junction. From here, turn left to Thiruvarppu Road. Once you cross the Knjiram bridge near the Kanjiram Boat Jetty Road, you will reach Malarikkal. Those travelling towards Malarikkal from the Kumarakam side must travel around 9 km. They should turn right to Thiruvarppu Road at Illikkal.
