A tourism circuit that will help Malayalam book lovers discover more about its legendary writers, including Vaikom Muhammad Basheer and OV Vijayan, is in the works and probably, it's the first of its kind in the country. The tour, an initiative of the Kerala Tourism department, will reportedly showcase memorials, homes, towns, villages, museums and more of renowned writers and even visit places where their favourite stories are set. One of the leading museums in the circuit is the Thunchathu Ezhuthachan Museum of Tirur in Malappuram. The works of SK Pottekatt, Akitham Achuthan Namboodiri, MT Vasuden Nair and more will also be featured in it, as per reports. Kerala Tourism Minister PA Mohammed Riyas is driving the initiative, and it will initially focus more on the literary spots in Northern Kerala.

A few of the other spots expected to be part of the circuit are:
1) OV Vijayan Memorial in Palakkad's Thaskrak, where the writer lived.
2) Memorial of Akitham Achuthan Namboodiri in Kozhikode
3) Edasseri Govindan Nair's birthplace in Kuttipuram, Malappuram
4) Poonthanam Illam, home of poet Poonthanam Namboothiri, in Malappuram
5) Tunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University in Tirur, Malappuram
In 2021, the announcement of Kerala's plan to launch the literary circuit was included in the budget. However, there were no follow-ups on it, for a while. Last year, the Andhra government's plan to launch a Telugu literary tourism circuit had also made headlines. A circuit that explores the works and life of poet Sumitranandan Pant was also reportedly in the works in Uttarakhand.
