Olympian Sajan Prakash opened Kerala's account at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand with a pair of bronze medals at Haldwani on Wednesday.

Sajan finished third in 100 m butterfly and 200 m freestyle events. Tamil Nadu's Benediction Rohit came close to breaking Sajan's Games record in 100 m butterfly. Rohit clocked 53.89 seconds for gold in the event. Sajan, who set the record of 53.79 in 2023 in Goa, finished third on 54.52 this time Maharashtra's Mihir Ambre clocked 54.24 to take silver.

Srihari Nataraj took gold in 200 m freestyle, clocking 1:50.57. His Karnataka teammate Aneesh S Gowda finished second on 1:52.42, while Sajan came third in the event on 1:53.73.

Dhinidhi Desinghu of Karnataka set a Meet Record in women's 200 m freestyle, clocking 2:03.24. She broke Hashika Ramachandra's record of 2:07.08 set in 2022.

Meanwhile, in women's volleyball, Kerala began their league round with a convincing 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-11) win over West Bengal. The National Games will conclude on February 14.
