Amid race for DGP post, MR Ajith Kumar gets clean chit in corruption case

Thiruvananthapuram: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) probing complaints on amassment of disproportionate assets against ADGP MR Ajith Kumar has submitted a report to the state government citing that there was no evidence to prove the charges. The Special Investigation Unit -1 (SIU), VACB, Thiruvananthapuram conducted the probe following a government order issued in September 2024.
Yogesh Gupta, Director, VACB said that the report on probe against Ajith Kumar was submitted last week and the inquiry against Sujith Das S is still on. "We looked into the complaints of amassing wealth. There is no evidence to substantiate the charges," said Yogesh Gupta.
In 2024, a team headed by Kerala police chief Shaik Darvesh Saheb was constituted to conduct an inquiry into the complaint of former MLA P V Anvar. The DGP reported that the allegations raised by P V Anvar, prima facie, disclosed that some of the allegations have a vigilance angle and recommended a detailed inquiry by the VACB. The SIU-I looked into the following aspects.
i) Allegation of cutting/ removing and misappropriation of valuable trees from the Camp of DPC, Malappuram.
ii) Allegation of accepting bribe in connection with the case registered against Sajan Scaria by MR Ajithkumar.
iii) Allegations of misappropriation of seized gold by M R Ajithkumar and Sujith Das S former DPC, Malappuram and the members of the DANSAF Team, Malappuram.
iv) Allegation of construction of palatial house at a cost of crores of rupees by M R Ajithkumar
v) Allegation of misappropriation of wealth by Ajithkumar and Sujith Das Sand DANSAF team, Malappuram
The SIU-1 led by SP Johnkutty K L submitted the probe report to the directorate, following which it was sent to the Home Department.
