Thiruvananthapuram: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) on Saturday terminated the driving licence of Arul Das, the driver of the tourist bus involved in the accident at Irinchayath, Nedumangad. Police arrested Das from his friend's residence and charged him with reckless driving that resulted in a fatality.
The investigation revealed that overspeeding and negligence by the driver caused the accident. The MVD also cancelled the bus's fitness certificate and registration (RC) after identifying the presence of illegally installed audiovisual systems in the vehicle.
The accident left several passengers injured, while Dasini (60), a resident of Kavalloor, lost her life. The injured are undergoing treatment, and their condition is reported to be stable.
The bus was carrying 49 passengers on a trip from Perunkadavila to Munnar when the incident occurred. Further investigations are underway.
