Slap Day kicks off Anti-Valentine's Week for singles

If February basks in romance, culminating with Valentines Day to celebrate love, it also has something that is entirely in contrast with the theme and mood that run deep through the month; Anti-Valentines Week. The concept has gained popularity in recent years, especially among those who are single and unromantic.

It starts from February 15 after the celebration of Valentine's Week from February 7 to 14. It is time, for those who are single or fresh out of a relationship, to purge all the deep emotions out of them. It is mostly borne out of the deafening and week-long Cupid clamour.

Anti-Valentine's Week is observed on a broader and more elaborate scale than the Valentine's Day celebration. The seven days of the Anti-Valentine's Week include Slap Day (February 15), Kick Day (February 16), Perfume Day (February 17), Flirt Day (February 18), Confession Day (February 19), Missing Day (February 20) and Breakup Day (February 21).

Valentine's Day originated as a Christian Feast Day honouring a martyr named Saint Valentine. The day assumed cultural, religious and commercial significance over the years and became an occasion to celebrate romance and love in many parts of the world. Slap Day has been trending on Google for the past few days.
