Kochi: Thrikkakara MLA Uma Thomas, who suffered severe injuries after falling from a stage during a dance event at Kaloor Stadium, is now on a path of recovery. She advised her son and personal staff to coordinate everything.
A message shared on the MLA’s Facebook page by her social media team stated that Uma Thomas emphasised the need for seamless functioning of her office. She directed her staff to avoid disruptions and to approach other legislators for assistance in urgent matters requiring intervention. She also instructed her team to monitor and evaluate the progress of ongoing development projects in the constituency diligently.
Doctors have indicated that Uma Thomas will remain in the ICU for another week.
“Today marks the tenth day since the accident. Our Uma Chechi is slowly reclaiming her life. She is still in considerable pain, but yesterday’s milestone—when she got up from bed and sat on a chair with assistance—was a source of immense relief,” read the Facebook post.
The post also recounted her interaction with her son, Vishnu, who visited her that morning. She requested to speak with her staff and social media team over a phone call. In the approximately five-minute conference call, she initially expressed her frustration at being in isolation for the past ten days. She then instructed the team to coordinate everything and ensure that her office continued to function effectively even in her absence. Uma also asked Vishnu about the upcoming assembly session, signalling her determination to return to her routine soon.
The tragic incident occurred on December 29, when Uma Thomas, along with other dignitaries, attended a dance event involving 11,600 participants, aiming to set a Guinness World Record. At the Kaloor Stadium, the MLA fell from a makeshift stage due to security lapses. Following the incident, the police arrested the organisers and initiated an investigation.
Uma Thomas sustained severe injuries to her brain and lungs in the fall. The rib fractures led to internal bleeding in her lungs, posing a significant challenge. However, her condition has shown notable improvement, and she is steadily recovering, according to recent updates.
