Kochi: The timely intervention by a KSRTC bus driver and conductor has saved the life of a 60-year-old woman who collapsed on the moving bus on Wednesday. The Thiruvananthapuram-bound bus diverted from its route and rushed to the emergency department of VPS Lakeshore Hospital in Kochi as the alert crew wanted to ensure prompt medical attention to the passenger.
The incident occurred around 12.30 pm. The elderly woman, who had boarded the bus from Vyttila mobility hub, collapsed and lost consciousness as the bus reached Kundannoor, around 3 km away.
Driver Lithin and conductor Lenin Sreenivasan diverted the vehicle to the nearby private hospital from Madavana Junction after being informed by a fellow passenger seated near the elderly woman.
"We were alerted by a passenger when the woman collapsed. Since we knew the hospital was nearby, we decided to take a diversion after informing the passengers on board," said the duo.
The woman, who displayed symptoms of cardiac arrest, was rushed to the hospital’s emergency department, where she was given immediate medical attention, saving her life.
The bus remained at the hospital for nearly 30 minutes before continuing its journey to Thiruvananthapuram. Footage from the bus' CCTV, capturing its quick dash to the hospital, has since gone viral on social media platforms.
