Kozhikode: The crime branch wing of the Kerala Police has launched an investigation into whether the amulet worn by Roy Thomas – one of the six victims of alleged cyanide poisoning in Koodathayi in Kozhikode district – caused his death.
In a related development, Manorama News reported that the astrologer who advised Roy to wear the amulet has been absconding since Wednesday morning. The astrologer lived next to Jolly's parental home in Kattappana in Idukki district.
The police had arrested Jolly on Sunday after she reportedly admitted that she poisoned Roy to death in 2002. Police sources said she had confessed her involvement in other five murders too.
Media reports suggested that the address of the astrologer and a small paper bundle containing some powder had been discovered from Roy's pocket after his death.
The police had registered a case for unnatural death at the time. The police later handed the amulet and the packet to Jolly following her request. Jolly was Roy's wife. In 2017, she married Shaju, whose wife Sily had died under mysterious circumstances.
Jolly had testified that the contents in the sheet of paper was later used to poison Sily in 2016.
Roy and Sily were among the six members of a family in Koodthayi who had died between 2002 and 2016 after they were allegedly fed cyanide-laced food.
Police sources said Jolly plotted all the murders to get hold of the property.
The serial murders caught public attention after the police began re-investigation into the case last Friday.
