Kochi: The state government on Wednesday informed the Kerala High Court that Mohammed Nisham, serving life sentence in the infamous Chandrabose murder case, did not suffer from any mental ailments.
The Kerala HC had recently directed the government to submit a report on the mental condition of Nisham, lodged in Central Prison, Kannur. Following the court’s direction, a medical board of Kannur district hospital examined Nisham. The court will consider the report Monday.
The court ordered the government to examine the mental state of Nisham after his relative P.I. Abdul Khader submitted a petition to withhold the life term given to the beedi tycoon as he was mentally ill. The petitioner also pleaded that Nisham should be provided treatment for his illness.
Multi-millionaire businessman Mohammed Nisham, 40, was sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment, for brutally killing K. Chandrabose, a security guard at a luxury apartment in Thrissur. Nisham, the managing director of King Beedi Company, was outraged over the delay in opening the gates of the apartment and assaulted the security guard before ramming his Hummer SUV on the victim in January, 2015.
In January, 2016, Nisham was awarded rigorous life imprisonment and another 24 years in jail for the coldblooded murder. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 80.30 lakh on him.
Nisham was also in the news after allegations that he was getting special treatment in the central prison.
