Thrissur: Another controversy has erupted after reports said that controversial beedi tycoon Mohammed Nisham, serving term for killing a security guard, threatened his own manager over the phone from the jail.

The Thrissur police have begun a probe into the incident. In the phone conversation that was accessed by Manorama News, the Chandrabose murder convict was heard asking the manager for money for conducting the case. The convict talked in a rude manner to the manager, who had been working in his company, King Spaces, for the past many years. His manager Chandrasekharan said that he had been subjected to mental trauma for long and that he was often threatened.

Earlier too, there were reports that Nisham used mobile phone from the jail. However, a probe by the DIG (prisons) failed to find any such incident and the matter was closed.

Nisham had been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Thrissur court in January last year besides an additional 24 years and a fine of Rs 80.30 lakh for killing the security guard of his residential complex in Thrissur.

Irked over the delay in opening the main gates, Nisham had assaulted Chandrabose, 51, and later rammed him with his Hummer on January 29, 2015.
