Chennai: Ahead of floating a political party, Tamil superstar Rajinikath gave a set of guidelines to his fans about their membership in the proposed entity. He disclosed the conditions while releasing a booklet on the norms for the activists of the Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM), the fan club.

A key point among the guidelines is that the eight-month-old Mandram will bar entry to people who are functionaries in organisations functioning on religious or casteist lines.

Also, one has to be 18 years or above to be an RMM member. There is a bar on displaying the name of the organisation on Mandram vehicles. The flag and party festoons should not be made of plastic. Only one from a family can become an office functionary.

Months have passed after the 67-year-old actor announced his decision to form a political party, yet its name has not been finalised. Currently, its activities are centred around the Mandram that was formed on January 1 this year. The guidelines have been issued with a view to broaden the appeal of the proposed party, according to RMM sources.

The RMM wants its members to respect women and not abuse or attack people who disagree with them. The age limit for the Mandram’s youth wing is 35 years. The members should respect the law of the land. The decision of the Mandram’s top leadership will be final, read the other directives.

The Mandram has issued special directives for its functionaries handling social media.

Overall, political observers see the guidelines as a precursor to Rajinikanth’s formation of a party.

Kamal Haasan, another southern superstar, too, had earlier issued directives to the members of the Makkal Needhi Maiam he launched in February after making public his decision to enter politics.
