Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain passed away at the age of 73 after being hospitalised for two weeks. In a statement released by his family, they mention the condition called 'Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF),' a lung disease, as the reason for the deterioration of his health. An ailment caused by the damage and scarring of lung tissues makes it difficult for the respiratory system to work properly, and it worsens with time, even after people stay stable for a considerable amount of time. Apparently, doctors find it tough to pinpoint what exactly triggers the condition. It occurs in older and middle-aged adults, and at times, it's also diagnosed in infants and children. Unfortunately, the damage caused can't be repaired, though medicines can help slow down its rates and symptoms. A lung transplant is also an option in certain cases. Here are the symptoms of IPF, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Symptoms of IPF
1) Extreme fatigue
2) Unexplained weight loss
3) Muscle and joint pain
4) Shortness of breath
5) Clubbing of fingers and toes (widening and rounding of tips)
6) Sudden worsening of symptoms
