In their home at Kakkanad, Kerala, IT professionals Libin Manuel and Tanny have achieved the remarkable feat of utilizing every inch of space on their compact 5-cent plot. This exemplifies the aspiration to make the most of limited urban living spaces.
The elevation of the house boasts a contemporary fusion style, while the roofing combines both flat and sloped patterns. The lower level of the residence features a porch, sit-out, spacious living room, dining area, kitchen, and one bedroom. Upstairs, you'll find three additional bedrooms. This design not only adds a touch of modernity but also cleverly maximizes open spaces on the lower level.
The house is oriented to the north, with the sit-out serving as the entry point from the car porch, providing easy access to the living area. Inside, the living room is adorned with a terracotta artwork that adds a rustic touch to the space. Accompanied by a minimalist sofa, it creates a cozy and inviting ambiance.
Connected to the living room, there is seamless transition to the dining and TV area, which also features a dedicated prayer unit. The dining area is furnished with a spacious six-seater table. Adjacent to this space, a tranquil courtyard is enclosed by a tall protective wall. Within the courtyard, you'll find a charming terracotta fountain and a serene water feature. Nearby, is the common washroom and a convenient hand wash area.
The dining and kitchen areas adopt a semi-open concept. The kitchen follows a soothing pastel-and-white colour scheme and boasts ample storage space. Its countertop is elegantly finished with nano white topping, and a work area complements the pantry kitchen.
On the upper floor, a truss roofing distinguishes the laundry area from the balcony. What makes this design truly remarkable is how the generous interior space conceals the fact that the house stands on just a 5-cent plot of land.
