Joy’s brand-new house at the beautiful countryside of Oravackal in Kottayam, Kerala has become a major landmark for its chic contemporary style and comfortable interiors. The structure stands in a sprawling one-acre land that is surrounded by lush greenery. Interestingly, this house dons two looks as there are entries from two sides.

The family insisted that the interiors should be cool and comfortable just like their old house which had a traditional mud-tiled roof. So, after constructing the ground floor brickwork has been done at a height of 1.2 metres before installing a mud tile paved truss roofing. This ensures that the sweltering summer heat is kept away from the interiors making the spaces cooler. Besides, this feature act as a protective shield during the monsoon. Huge floor-size windows and other openings facilitate excellent cross-ventilation inside the house.

The double-height light courtyard near the living room brings in oodles of natural sunshine and helps in pushing out the hot air too. The indoor plant and the quaint fountain grant a serene ambience to this area.

From here, one could access the open terrace through a huge window. This is the best spot in the house to enjoy the panoramic view of the beautiful surroundings.
