Kunjumon and family who are settled in Ireland desired a house of their own in their hometown in Kottayam where they could enjoy their yearly vacation. Their main demand was that the house should be simple and easy to maintain. The vast 1 acre plot has lots of shading trees and plants and has been contoured into two levels for constructing the house.
The stylish sloped roof is the highlight of the exteriors. Roofing tiles are paved on the GI truss roof. The house looks like a double-storey structure from the outside as the roof is higher than the usual conventional style. Besides, this unique feature effectively prevents the heat from entering the house. The breathing walls highlighted in bright red hue ensure amazing cross-ventilation as well.
Designed in 2604 sq ft area, this simple yet elegant house has a car porch, sit-out, living area, dining space, courtyard, three bedrooms and a kitchen with an adjacent work area. The spaces are beautifully arranged in a single storey structure to make maintenance easier.
The interiors are designed in the open style. Meanwhile, the living and the dining areas are part of the spacious hall. These open spaces actually make the interiors look vast and airy. However, each space has been carefully arranged to ensure privacy as well. One cannot catch a glimpse of bedrooms from the common spaces. The courtyards play vital role in filling the interiors with natural light and cool breeze.
The car porch is built on the lower level of the plot. One could reach the entrance of the house by climbing a flight of stairs. The entrance door is accessible through the long verandah too.
The main door opens to the formal living area. The adjacent courtyard has open ceiling through which lots of sunshine and air enters the house.
