It was in 1996 that the International Egg Commission had decided to celebrate World Egg Day on the second Friday of October each year. It is celebrated around the world to raise awareness about the importance of egg, which is a cheaper source of nutrition, in human diet. Eggs are storehouses of protein, fat and vitamins.

The eggs of chicken, duck and quail are the ones that are commonly used in the diet. More than 1 crore eggs are used in Kerala in a day. However, doctors say that cholesterol patients shouldn’t consume the egg yolks.

Fill a glass bowl with water and gently set the egg into it. If the egg sinks to the bottom of the bowl, then the egg is fresh. If it tilts and floats a bit, the egg has begun to turn bad. However, you can still consume it. It is better to boil such eggs for longer duration. If the egg floats on the surface, refusing to sink, then the egg is rotten and it shouldn’t be eaten.
