KTU invites applications for PhD till March 31

Kerala’s Kerala Technological University (KTU) has invited applications for carrying out full-time and part-time research with fellowship leading to PhD in its affiliated colleges. The applications could be submitted in online mode till March 31 on the university’s site app.ktu.edu.in along with a fee of Rs 1,000 for general candidates and Rs 500 for scheduled categories.
Selected candidates can engage in research in various fields, such as Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Basic Sciences, Mathematics, Computer Applications and Management.
Four types of PhDs offered by KTU
• Full-time with or without fellowship
• Part-time for faculty of affiliated colleges
• Part-time for the public
• Full-time for QIP (Quality Improvement Programme), NDF (National Doctoral Fellowship) and JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) categories with a fellowship for three years.
Applicants should have a Master’s degree with at least 6.5 grade points average in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Mathematics, Basic Sciences, Computer Applications or Management. In Management, candidates with a post-graduate diploma equivalent to a degree are also eligible. Post-graduates in Engineering and Technology also would be considered for research in Management.
In case marks are considered instead of grade points, the applicants should have scored at least 60 per cent. Meanwhile, the minimum grade points average for Scheduled and differently-abled categories is 5.5 and marks 55 per cent.
Another condition says that members of the public wishing to pursue PhD should be working in institutions having a conducive environment for research as per KTU norms. Applications from PG students now in their Final/Pre-final semesters would also be considered, subject to certain conditions, says KTU.
Selection process
The first part (A) involves a written test on aptitude for research having 35 marks. While questions for 18 marks would be on analytical skills, five marks are for English and 12 for research methodology. The cut-off is 3.5 marks.
The second part (B) would have questions on the subject, also of 35 marks. The cut-off is 14 marks.
For selection, applicants should score a minimum of 45 per cent aggregate in A and B.
The third part (C) is an interview with 30 marks, in which candidates have to secure a minimum of 12 marks. In addition, they have to score a minimum aggregate of 50 out of 100 in A, B and C for selection.
Exemptions
At the same time, candidates belonging to QIP and JRF categories need not take the written test or face the interview. KTU informed that a separate notification will be issued for NDF candidates.
Similarly, those who have secured GATE/ NET/KSCSTE (Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment) or equivalent fellowships and MPhil holders with at least 6 grade point average need to take only the ‘A’ part of the written test. For Scheduled, Backward and differently-abled candidates, the grade point average is 5.5.
