Bengaluru: The Kerala RTC is all set to conduct experimental runs in the Thiruvananthapuram – Bengaluru route using superfast Minnal buses. Thiruvananthapuram, via Kottayam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Coimbatore, Salem and Hosur route, is being considered for this service. The final decision regarding the route of the non-AC deluxe buses and the ticket fares is likely to be made soon. Meanwhile, the authorities hope that the Minnal services will be able to attract commoners as the tickets are cheaper than the AC buses. The Minnal bus service that has stops only at specific spots used to run services only inside Kerala. However, Minnal services from Palakkad to Mookambika and Kanyakumari, which were launched two months ago, are earning good profits, forcing the authorities to consider staring a service in the Bengaluru route too.

Old buses to be given a facelift
KSRTC also plans to convert a handful of its old buses to AC premium vehicles. As per reports, the move is inspired by a private bus service in the Bangadukka - Kasaragod route, which managed to install air-conditioning for just about Rs 6 lakh, and the worsening summers of Kerala. The department has appointed experts to study the feasibility of the project and convert buses for Rs 4 lakh per vehicle.
