The home of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, neelakurinji flowers and rolling grasslands - Munnar's Eravikulam National Park, is all set to reopen. The park will welcome tourists starting on April 1, and they will get to see many newborn Tah babies. It was closed last month, as February - March is the calving season for the animals. The park is closed every year around this time to protect the newborns of the Tahrs. After April 20, a census will be conducted to count the number of Tahrs after the calving season. Last year's census found 144 babies and 825 Tahrs. The Eravikulam National Park is Kerala's first fully disabled-friendly ecotourism centre, which is also carbon-negative.

The park opens at 8 am and functions till 4 pm. The summer season of April to May is a good time for wildlife spotting in the park, but the months that follow, till April, will have many restrictions in the park due to the monsoon season. The best time to check out the animals will be in the morning when it will also be less crowded. You can book the tickets via the official website, pick your date and number of visitors, and pay online. You can show the e-ticket at the park entry gate. The Indian ticket charge is Rs 200, and foreign nationals are charged Rs 500. You can also reserve tickets in advance with a fee of Rs 50 at the Munnar's Information Centre reservation counter from 9 am to 3 pm.
